Few months back I have started playing a massive multiplayer online role-playing game called Vindictus. Just search for the name to find the official site or to get related information in the forums and Wiki pages.

As most of the "free" games online, you can purchase (in the real world) items, upgrades, packages, etc., but you can play the game in the fullest truly for free. It may take a little longer to get certain items, better armor and weapons, but you can do it all without having to spend a real dime. Be ready to spend a lot of in-game gold coins to acquire what you need, but these gold coins are also easy to collect relatively easily. If you learn one of the skills offered in the story (armorsmithing, weaponsmithing, goldsmithing, tailoring...), you can really make some money in the game marketplace.

It is very interesting to see the playing characters (distinguished from the Non Playing Characters or NPC which are part of the game's storyline) with all sort of outfits, armors, weapons, tattoos, hair styles.
6 characters to choose, each one with their strength and weaknesses. Just find the one that is better suited for your playing style. Lots of skills to learn to improve your fighting or other abilities. Tons of quests.
I have a question about that, though. It appears that most people are sticking with the main "Season one" story line and I do not see many playing characters following the "Season 2" quests. Anyway, there are a multitude of path to follows and you do not have to do all the quests presented. There are several quests related to skills, equipment or side stories that will help you level up faster to be ready for the main storyline.

Initially I just jumped in the game and blindly just follow the quests, leveling up on whatever skills I thought I needed. I did not learn an expertise (I chose Armorsmithing) until way later in the game than when I could have acquired one. Then I started reading some of the forums and learning about other players' experiences and the suggested order to level up your skills. That made a lot of difference!!! I actually paid attention and tested the different combination that can be used during combat, increased skills and ability according to a certain order that maximizes the character abilities. With the expertise Armorsmithing I am now able to get a lot of gold selling armors and shields.

Other items crafted by NPCs also sell for a lot of gold (Magical Elixirs, Party revival feathers, etc.) and it is easy to gather enough materials to bring to an NPC to craft some of the items. Easy money.

The other good thing is that you can have more than one character under a single account, allowing you to experience the game from different perspectives. You could choose a different expertise to learn to, maximizing your capability as you can transfer items from one character to another using the mail system built into the game.

You can create or be part of a guild, you can participate in raids against stronger bosses. Any quest can be done with the help of other players, making its completion much faster

As you may have inferred, I really like this game. I consider myself still a relatively new player, as I am learning now the best way to proceed in the game. My Lann character is only level 38 at this time and you can go all the way to level 80 with more and more quests opening up with higher levels, new skills and new equipment.

And I have never seen a bad word in the game. Even "suck" is not allowed. All the players I have encountered are polite and helpful and it is very easy to make friends that can be called upon to assist if you are in a bind.
I guess I met only one player that was just annoying. It was on a raid against the giant White Bear and this archer did not participate in the fight as it was there "only to look and maybe assist", but he (I say "he" as the character was Kai, the archer) was just being irritating as kept talking smack about our fighting styles. Yep, that was the only character I have encountered until now that was an ass. All the others, even level 70s, which you would thing they would snob lower level players, have been helpful and supportive.

And the game's creators from time to time have new events like the one they run at Christmas; or last month you could upgrade an item to +10 enhancement in one shot if you were willing to pay a lot of gold coins; a new character was introduced in December (Vella). Always something going on.
Right now, if you complete a quest with a guild member, you get higher experience points.

At this time I am concentrating in acquiring  Ability Points (AP) to increase my skills and experience to increase my level. When you reach level 40 you can choose the path of the Dark Knight or the Paladin. This ability allows you to transform in a more powerful entity able to dish out or absorb massive damage. If a member in your party transforms, your character stats will also increase. Basically, Dark Knight attacks are more powerful, Paladin defenses are much higher. It is really more complicated than that as there are different stages and skills on each path, but you get the idea.

The game is really designed to encourage people helping each other. Some quests/maps can only be completed with a team.

If you decide to play this game look for my name (Firsthagi). I am willing to help you go through some of the maps faster, so you can complete the first part of the story while you are learning. I normally go online at night and play for a couple of hours. I may use you as bait for the bosses. While they are concentrating on bashing you, I can attack from behind  ;-)
